The SPOA's History

The first document record of the Stockton Police Widows and Orphans Association was February 13, 1914.

The first recipient of survivor benefits for the Stockton Police Widows and Orphans Association was Amelia Briscoe, the widow of Jack Briscoe, who was killed in the line of duty in 1917.

The members of the Association voted September 9, 1953, to start a loan service offered to its member.

In 1974, the members voted to change the name of our Association to the Stockton Police Officers' Association.

The SPOA's Stated Purpose

The object of this Association is to render aid to the Widows and Orphans of all of it's deceased members; to consolidate and to harmonize conditions in said Police Department, and to protect and promote the members' wages, hours and terms and conditions of employment.
